NECOG GIS Department Under a Department of Transportation (DOT) mapping contract, NECOG has
been driving all public roads and streets within our 12 county region.
The purpose is to update the current DOT map to give DOT an accurate
inventory of the roads in the State of We have completed collecting the road data for our 12 county region and we will be continuing to update different counties each year. Using GPS equipment, a computer database of information is being created. Some of the information that will be recorded includes the following: Road Features such as road name, number of lanes, surface width, and surface condition; Road Events such as mile markers, bridges, and railroad crossing; Structures such as farm, rural residence, private business, church, school, and other buildings; plus other features such as a cemetery, water tower, park, or communication tower. Once this information is collected, it is then processed into the form of a map, a map with roads that can be changed, added to, zoomed in on, and printed.
