Our goal, like yours, is to improve the quality of life in northeast South Dakota by providing the tools to create and retain jobs and increase the services available in your community. To accomplish this goal, we offer professional development, planning and management services to local governments, and assist in the administration of local programs and projects. 

 

 


GRANT APPLICATIONS AND PROJECT DEVELOPMENT

Prepare applications and supporting materials for the following programs: 

  • Community Development Block Grants 
  • Consolidated Water Facilities Construction Grants 
  • USDA Rural Development grants and loans 
  • Environmental Protection Agency grants and loans 
  • Economic Development Administration grants and loans 
  • Revolving Economic Development and Initiative (REDI) Fund 
  • State Water Plan 
  • Historic Preservation 

BUSINESS AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

  • Provide assistance in obtaining available funding 
  • Work with an extensive network of economic development specialists 
  • Develop industrial and economic development proposals 
  • Work with development corporations in preparing community for future economic development 
  • Work with State Programs 

ENVIRONMENTAL PLANNING

  • Water quality research 
  • Environmental assessments 
  • Interpret aerial photos

REVOLVING LOAN FUND

  • To fund small businesses and expansion of existing businesses which will create new jobs 
  • One job created for each $10,000 loaned 
  • Interest rates comparable to regional lending institutions 
  • Criteria includes owner equity and conventional lending institution participation 

RESEARCH AND EDUCATION

  • Sponsor informational seminars and workshops 
  • Prepare special reports and studies as needed 

ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANCE

  • Administer State and Federal grants 
  • Develop public safety policies and procedures, personnel manuals, and job descriptions 
  • Provide general management assistance 

INFORMATION SOURCE

  • Census information (population, income, housing, etc.) 
  • Employment and unemployment figures 
  • Gross and taxable sales figures 
  • Educational statistics 
  • Flood plain information
